General Tips
for Cleaning Spills
When cleaning a spill, remember to always:
-
Attend to spills immediately. The faster
you react to a spill, the easier it will be
to avoid/remove stains.
-
Work from the outside to the inside of the
stained area
-
Use a WHITE towel, whether it is paper or
cloth. A towel with color may leave the color
on the carpet.
-
Blot; never brush or scrape.
Food spills - Remove all food debris using a
spoon or dull knife. Then follow the instructions
below.
1 - Blot the soiled area with a white towel.
Continue to blot with a clean section of the
towel until all the liquid is absorbed.
2 - If a stain remains, mix 1/4 teaspoon of
CLEAR, mild houeshold dish detergent (Ivory,
Joy,etc.) with 32 ounces of water. Dip towel
in the solution. Blot the stained area with
the wet portion of the towel.
3 - Wet a clean white towel with water. Blot
the soiled area until all detergent is removed.
4 - Blot the soiled area with a dry white towel
and repeat until all moisture is absorbed into
the towel.
5 - Stack several white towels on top of each
other. Place them over the soiled area. Place
books or another heavy object - that will
not transfer color - over the soiled
area.
Wool Carpeting: It
is important to complete step 5 with wool carpeting
as wool retains moisture, but, feels dry to the
touch. |
